Episode 58 – Being From Another Planet

Posted

Summer is almost over which means it’s time to cram as much fun in the sun as you can before fall arrives! Dr. Odd actually took us on a “family” vacation, that unfortunately featured about a 1% to 99% ratio of fun to sun. At least it was nice to get down from space for once… maybe…

This week we discuss MST3K S4E5 – Being From Another Planet, a mummy movie so bad that it almost breaks Joel and the Bots, as well as the viewers at home. Both Being From Another Planet and Castle of Fu Manchu are proof that a film can be so bad, that even great riffing can’t make it entertaining. Buried among the wreckage of this film though, is one of the best invention exchange ideas ever with the Mads’ “Tragic Moment Figurines”, which is a tragedy in and of itself because a sketch that good should have been saved for a much better episode.

Once you’re done listening, head over to our facebook page and discuss MST3K and MST3K related things with other like minded people (seriously, our community is the most awesome one anywhere online) and follow us on Twitter. If you love the show and want to support the podcast even more, we have a Patreon page where for just a dollar a month, you can access our other podcast Dr. Odd’s Cinematic Fun Dumpster, where Dr. Odd makes us watch and discuss a film of his choice (spoiler alert: Dr. Odd has terrible taste in everything). Finally if you love us and want to help other people who like MST3K to find the show, head over to our iTunes page and leave a review.

Episode 57 – The Time Travelers

If you had to guess what Dr. Odd had in his “recently viewed” section of Netflix, what do you think you’d see there? For better or for worse, we find out, and we get a cribs-style tour of his “house”. It’s both enlightening, and exactly what you’d expect.

We also discuss MST3K S11E3 – The Time Travelers, a film about a man named Danny who needs to learn about the Butterfly Effect and who by law shouldn’t ever be allowed within 1000 feet of a scientific facility. All joking aside The Time Travelers wasn’t actually THAT bad of a film, and Jonah and the bots are in fine form with the riffing. Now, it’s no Cry Wilderness, but it is still a very high quality MST3K episode.

Don’t forget to stop by our facebook page to join other awesome like-minded people who love both us and MST3K, and if following twitter accounts that only tweet once every couple weeks is your thing, you can find us there too. We also have a patreon page where for just a dollar a month you can get access to our other show – Dr. Odd’s Cinematic Fun Dumpster – a show in which Dr. Odd makes us watch one of his favorite films, and then talk about it with him. It’s a very fun show, and your monthly donation REALLY helps us out! Last but not least, if you haven’t, stop by our itunes page and leave us a nice review! That one doesn’t cost anything and it’s also a lovely way to support the show!

Episode 56 – Teenagers From Outer Space

Someone a long time ago once said “the Pen is mightier than the Sword”. Well up here in space we have neither pens nor swords, but Renea STILL managed to write a fairly lengthy space station newsletter. Maybe “newsletter” should be put in quotes? Aside from a rather interesting website write up, the other 900+ pages are somewhat questionable…

This week we discussed MST3K S4E4 – Teenagers From Outer Space. Not only is this a very good MST3K episode, but the film itself isn’t half bad either! All-in-all both Jeff and Renea enjoyed this episode quite a bit – particularly, but not limited to, anything directly related to really fake-y skeletons.

If you want to talk about how YOU feel about the skeletons in Teenagers From Outer Space (or anything else tangentially related to MST3K) you should go over to our facebook page and join a community of other awesome, like-minded people. If Facebook isn’t your thing, you can follow us on Twitter as well. We also have a patreon page, where for $1 a month you can get access to our other show “Dr. Odd’s Cinematic Fun Dumpster” – a show where Dr. Odd forces us to watch one of his “favorite” films, and then the three of us discuss it. This month is the famous Turkish Star Wars, which is a film that almost completely eludes any sort of description. Your support helps us a great deal, and we love and appreciate all of you. And if you can’t support us monetarily, you can go to our iTunes page and leave us a nice review there – it helps us climb the iTunes charts and allows other people to find the show.

Thanks for listening! We love you all!

Episode 55 – Cry Wilderness

Do you ever metaphorically feel like things are out of control, and someone else is at the wheel? We literally feel that way this episode when we meet the unfortunate creature that Dr. Odd has tasked with piloting our ship (as well as a few other unsavory jobs).

This episode we discuss MST3K S11E2 – Cry Wilderness, a movie featuring a littering Bigfoot, and a lot of bowl cuts. Fortunately (despite the high ratio of bad hair) this turned out to be a fantastic MST3K episode – not just for the new season, but one of the best in the series.

If you want to talk MST3K with like-minded people, head over to our facebook page and meet our other awesome fans. If twitter is more your thing, you can follow us there too! We also have a patreon page, so if you love the show and can give $1 a month to help us out, we would really appreciate it! Finally, if you want to help other people find our show, go by our iTunes page and leave a review! We appreciate all of you!

Episode 54 – City Limits

I don’t know a lot about science, let alone mad science, but I’m pretty sure doing an “exchange program” with your test subjects isn’t par for the course. But in the domain of Dr. Odd “par for the course” is usually about as far from normal as you can get, so I suppose that this shouldn’t have been unexpected. Dr. Odd and Dr. Rodd have decided to do a test-subject switcheroo, meaning that Seth was sent away to be subject to whatever horrors Dr. Rodd has in store, and Dr. Rodd’s captive Renea was sent over to the land of MST3K and clam juice.

After a brief acclimation period, we watch MST3K S4E3 – City Limits a film which seems to have inspired most, if not all of the outfits in the Fallout video game series. It’s a pretty bad movie, but a overall pretty decent MST3K episode.

Once you’re done listening, head over to our facebook page and talk with us more about MST3K, follow us on twitter, and leave us a review on iTunes. If you want more of Jeff, Renea and Dr. Odd, go to our Patreon page and subscribe to get this month’s episode of Doctor Odd’s Cinematic Fun Dumpster. This month we watched Roller Derby, which is essentially Napoleon Dynamite on rollerskates, minus the intentional irony, and with less charm, and significantly less plot.

Thanks for listening!
